A regional municipality of Wood Buffalo is located in the northeastern corner of Alberta. Created inside 1995 as an amalgamation of the City of Fort McMurray and Improvement District 143, it now ranks, by locality, among a big municipalities in North America, and is the largest in Canada. Underlying its 68,454 klick² of wilderness lie vast oil sand deposits, also referred to as a Athabasca Tar Sands, helping to make a vicinity one of a fastest growing industrial areas around Canada.

Until a Alberta electoral boundary re-distribution of 2004, a municipality was divided between the provincial electoral districts of Fort McMurray (the community itself) & Athabasca-Wabasca (the encompassing region). A re-distribution amalgamated a municipality into one electoral territory covering a entire municipality. Following, a recently Wood Buffalo electoral district became the virtually all thickly settled such territorial dominion within Alberta.
